Pregnancy Massage

“Alice took time to get to know my issues asking questions in a sensitive way both about my pregnancy and previous injuries. The massage was so good - she checked in about pressure and got rid of some tight spots. I’ve been struggling to sleep in my third trimester and that night slept straight through the night. Have booked another massage for next week and can’t wait!”

First things first

Congratulations on creating a new life. The changes we experience throughout pregnancy are mindblowing and unique. There’s a lot of newness and adaptation - physically, mentally and emotionally.

I have completed advanced training specifically for pregnancy massage (Aug2023) and I’m comfortable and experienced in massaging in all trimesters. I have also been pregnant and had a baby. Let me support you on your journey to birth and beyond.

How can holistic massage help in pregnancy?

  • Relieve muscle tension and achy joints

  • Boost circulation to reduce swelling

  • Improve skin condition to lessen stretch marks

  • A space to totally relax in a time of uncertainty, fear or anxiety of birth

  • Feel more like yourself and in touch with who you are at this time

  • Mentally prepare for labour and life with a newborn

  • Receive some tenderness and care. What you’re doing is quite remarkable and you are amazing!

Considerations:

As with all massages; please read the What to Expect page. Additions and considerations for pregnancy include:

  • Would you like this experience in the comfort of your own home? I can come to you.

  • Please share your pregnancy journey and if you wish, your feelings about your birth/parent-hood.

  • I’ll ensure you’re as comfortable as possible whether semi-reclined, side lying, b.y.o. ball, seated or floor massage (prearranged).

  • I have suitable pregnancy massage oils and lovely herbal tea.

  • I offer abdominal massage - many love connecting to baby this way, it also helps with digestive issues and easing over stretched abdominal muscles. Your baby is well protected in your uterus. If you’d rather not then we won’t, this is your body, your massage.

Cautions and when not to have pregnancy massage

  • High blood pressure, swelling through limbs and headaches combined

  • Illness - fever, diarrhoea, vomiting, recent serious injury

  • Thrombosis DVT

  • Sever unexplained abdominal pain

  • Premature labour signs such as contractions and low backache

  • Vaginal bleeding - unless only spotting and under control, signed off by midwife or GP

  • High blood pressure - unless under control and signed off by midwife or GP

  • Cholestasis - unless under control and signed off by midwife or GP

  • Pregnancy diabetes - unless under control and signed off by midwife or GP

  • Epilepsy - unless under control and signed off by midwife or GP

  • Thyroid conditions - unless under control and signed off by midwife or GP

  • Pelvic pain - see obstetric physio and adapt massage accordingly

“I wouldn’t recommend anyone else but Alice if you need a pregnancy massage in the Pembrokeshire area. Alice takes a lot of time and care to make sure you are comfortable and are getting the most from your massage. My pregnancy aches and pains were definitely put to ease after visiting Alice!”
